I tasted the red 2022 Villarín Mencía for the third time. It was produced with the grapes from one hectare of 96-year-old vines on quartzite and slate soils. It fermented in concrete and matured in used 228-liter barrels for seven months. It’s ripe and a bit heady, hitting the scale at 14% but with a low pH of 3.2 and 6.1 grams of acidity. This is different from the rest of the reds: it's darker, the nose feels riper, and it's more conventional and fruit-driven. It has notes of ripe berries, herbs and integrated oak. It has a medium- to full-bodied palate with some dusty tannins. It's tasty, dry and long. 1,790 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2023. Luis Gutiérrez

Fresco, floral y elegante. Fruta roja, hierbas y un toque mineral. Taninos finos y final largo que invita a otra copa.
