Descripción

Le Petit Mouton es el segundo vino de Château Mouton Rothschild. Cosechado, vinificado y criado como su gran hermano mayor pero más asequible al tener su origen en las viñas más jóvenes de la propiedad. Toma su nombre de la residencia de la baronesa Philippine de Rothschild, en el corazón del domaine.

Clima
2023 fue uno de los años más calurosos registrados, con una floración perfecta a finales de mayo y dos rachas de calor a finales de agosto y principios de septiembre, que marcaron el inicio de la cosecha. Las condiciones climáticas inestables permitieron que las uvas ganaran madurez y la última semana de septiembre ofreció sol de verano para concluir la cosecha.

James Suckling:

Very beautiful aromas of blueberries, plums and orange peel. It's full-bodied with juicy fruit and a tangy undertone of citrus acidity. The integrated tannins are poised and unseen, but you can feel the tannic tension. The second wine of Mouton. 79% cabernet sauvignon, 12% merlot, 7% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot. Drink from 2028.

The 2023 Le Petit Mouton offers up aromas of cassis, burning embers and cigar wrapper, framed by a touch of toasty oak. Full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's rich, dense and layered, with an ample core of fruit and ripe structuring tannins.

Decanter:

Bright and energetic but layered straight away - this has a playful side, being so approachable in terms of flavours and texture but it’s also really relaxed and calm. It has some savoury edges, slightly herbal touches and some soft liquorice with bramble fruit. Long lasting. It’s almost understated, not overly textured, but giving. Hands off, lifted and easy. Salty strawberries, cherries and chalkiness. Relaxed, transparent not trying too hard. 3.74pH.
