Cotizadísimo y siempre entre los grandes, este Primer Grand Cru Classé destaca por ser uno de los vinos más potentes y exuberantes de Burdeos. Siguiendo la tónica de la región, 2022 fue una añada cálida que dio uvas más pequeñas y concentradas dando un tinto de una riqueza increíble sin perder nada de la suprema elegancia y la intensa expresión de su terroir de origen.

Nariz
Aseguran desde la bodega que este Château Mouton Rothschild 2022 es tan luminoso como lo fue el año. Intenso desde el principio, revela concentrados aromas a fruta negra fresca y completamente madura, con notas de grosella negra y mora sutilmente subrayadas por toques de grafito y grano de cacao.
Boca
Vino de infinita profundidad, con cuerpo, generoso, cremoso, suave y con gran pureza. Sensaciones de madera de cedro, especias y pimienta blanca complementan la variedad. Su complejidad, sabor y taninos, con su delicado toque de regaliz, parecen infinitos.
Temperatura de servicio
Se recomienda servir a 16 °C.

Viñedo y elaboración

Descripción
Viñedos plantados en montículos (de ahí el nombre del 'château') en una estrecha franja de 80 kilómetros de largo y de 5 a 10 kilómetros de ancho, cerca del río Gironda, que dota de reservas hídricas en profundidad. La propiedad limita al norte con el bosque de Las Landas que actúa de barrera protectora suavizando las temperaturas, también más moderadas por la influencia del río.

Clima
2022 fue desde el comienzo templado y seco. El tiempo soleado prevaleció durante todo el ciclo de crecimiento de la vid, acompañado de varias olas de calor. Hubo pocas precipitaciones desde la primavera hasta el final de la cosecha, salvo dos episodios de lluvias reseñables en abril y las más intensas de junio, que restauraron las reservas de agua en el suelo. Las vides supieron ambos para regular su aporte hídrico y demostraron una gran capacidad de adaptación a las excepcionales condiciones climáticas de la añada. En estas condiciones calurosas y secas, la floración tuvo lugar 10 días antes que el promedio, y aunque rápida, fue perfectamente uniforme. El avance del ciclo vegetativo continuó hasta la vendimia, ya que las uvas maduraron de forma sostenida en condiciones ideales.
Cosecha
Vendimia manual del 1 al 26 de septiembre. La cosecha presentó un perfecto estado de salud. Aunque el clima cálido hizo que las uvas fueran bastante pequeñas, ofrecieron un grado de concentración y equilibrio que rara vez se encuentra.
Envejecimiento
100% barricas nuevas.

James Suckling:

Wow. The aromas here are so complete with blackcurrants, asphalt, violets, lead pencil, orange blossoms and black truffles. A perfect nose. It's full-bodied yet tied down with seamless tannins that run the length of the wine and give such a seductive mouthfeel and persistence. A vintage with one of the highest percentages of cabernet sauvignon ever. Quintessential, great Bordeaux with no limits. Drink after 2028.

Moving to the flagship, the 2022 Château Mouton Rothschild is a massive, full-bodied, incredibly powerful 2022 that takes no prisoners with its ripe black and blue fruits, chocolate, graphite, and smoked tobacco-driven aromas and flavors. Deep, unctuous, and concentrated, with velvety tannins, this legendary Mouton is based on 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Merlot that's still resting in new barrel. It will unquestionably play with the top wines in the vintage. Harvest here began the 1st of September and finished on the 26th, and the final wine hit 14% natural alcohol, with a pH of 3.89 and an IPT of 76.

Decanter:

One of my favourite 2022s, technically very brilliant but it’s the texture that wows, generous, fruity, sleek, supple, it gives stone and graphite touches putting the terroir in the glass and overall this just screams elegance and finesse and above all drinkability! Smooth and shiny, silky, sleek, delicious from the first sip. Mouthwatering acidity combined with tannins that have the perfect balance of flinty grip, fleshy fruit and cool minerality. Certainly not shouting, they haven't pushed too far at all, more restrained and refined while still delivering a gorgeous mouthful of wine. Classy and refreshing. Concentrated but clean, pure and vibrant. Wonderful, magical - giving the concentration of the hot vintage which is want you want, but this is moreish and so succulent. One you'll want to finish the glass and then have more immediately. 16.4% press - 4% above normal, usually at 12-13%. 49% grand vin. 3.89pH. 76 IPT. Aged 100% in new barrels. 98-100 points. 

The Wine Advocate:

The 2022 Mouton Rothschild is one of the most muscular, almost brutally powerful wines of the vintage. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums and sweet crème de cassis mingled with notions of espresso roast, pencil lead and petroleum jelly, it's full-bodied, dense and concentrated, with huge reserves of tannin and fruit. A blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Merlot that represents 49% of the estate's production, this is a prodigious Mouton that's built for the cellar.
