The 2021 Viñedos de Salinillas de Buradón comes from a parish of Labastida, the westernmost place bottled in the Lindes project, a very small place with 117 inhabitants and currently 47 hectares of vineyards in total. From two growers, they get the grapes from 4.5 of these hectares to produce 20,000 bottles. It has a lactic twist, notes of wild berries and flowers and herbs. It's medium to full-bodied, textured, fine-grained and tasty, clean and focused. It's surprisingly fresh and elegant, but it's also powerful and ripe, coming in at 14.6% alcohol but with all in balance. It was bottled in June 2023.
Black cherry, blueberry, lavender, bay leaf and black pepper on the nose and palate. Medium body with dusty tannins and a composed feel. Long, peppery finish with a saline edge at the end. Salinillas de Buradon is on the side of the Sierra de Cantabria mountain range that benefits from a cooler, more Atlantic climate. Such a dainty Rioja. Around 17,400 bottles. Delicious now, but will hold.
Salinillas is one of the coldest villages in Rioja - and the only one that’s located on the northern, Atlantic-facing side of the Sierra de Cantabria. Based on Garnacha, with smaller contributions from Tempranillo, Graciano and white grapes, this is a serious, firm, single-site Rioja with top notes of vanilla, thyme and gingerbread, textured tannins and a racy bramble and red berry core. 2027-35

Delicioso!
