The 2024 Carrasviñas Fermentado en Barrica shows even better than the unoaked wine from this same vintage. It's more expressive and nuanced, possibly with the advantage of the less-reductive environment in which it fermented and matured. There is a peachy character that is very attractive, and the mouthfeel is dry and chalky, finishing dry and long. The parameters are very similar: 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.15 and 5.8 grams of acidity. 30,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2025. They are using more and more 500-liter barrels, which are more respectful with the wine.
Fermented in 300L and 500L French and American barrels (but more French), this comes from vines grown on stoney soils and shows the steely vibrancy that is typical from this part of Rueda. With regular battonâge, the palate displays a certain richness and concentration but the freshness of this vintage is impressive. The oak is discreet, finely framing the wine and adding a little woody spice. It is a really elegant example of an oak-aged wine at a very accessible price. 2026-29. (Beth Willard)
