A plush and creamy Rioja with notes of cherries, plums, chocolate, hazelnuts and lemon zest. Juicy ripe fruit wrapped up in a medium body and supple tannins. Flavorful finish. Vegan. Delicious already, but better from 2023.
The Haro village red 2019 Asúa surprises with its complexity and freshness. A kind of super-crianza, it is 100% Tempranillo with 14% alcohol and very good freshness, which is their obsession with this wine. This is the Rioja I want to find when I order them by the glass—it's clean, pure and fresh, with integrated oak after 18 months in French barrique, complex, juicy and serious but very drinkable. It's nicely textured, chalky, dry and balanced. 40,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)
One of those wines that's good now but will benefit from another year or two in bottle, the Asúa Reserva is grippy, focused and shuttered right now, with toasty mocha oak, chewy tannins and layers of plum, blackberry and black olive. 2024-30.
