Descripción

Pese a que 2020 fue una cosecha muy temprana, a juicio de los responsables de Château Grand-Puy Ducasse, podemos estar ante una de las grandes de Burdeos. Así lo atestiguan las primeras catas de este tinto rico, especiado, suave, pero al mismo tiempo fresco y con tensión.

Viñedo y elaboración

Cosecha
Vendimia manual que en el caso de la Merlot se llevó a cabo del 15 al 22 de septiembre y para la Cabernet sauvignon entre el 23 de septiembre y el 1 de octubre de 2020. La cosecha se recoge en cajas, tras una primera selección en el viñedo.
Vinificación
Nueva clasificación de la uva en bodega mediante un sistema de selección óptica de última generación. A continuación, la vinificación se realiza en depósitos de acero inoxidable a temperatura controlada, sin embargo, para algunos de los lotes, también se realiza la fermentación maloláctica en barricas nuevas.
Envejecimiento
En barricas de roble francés, el 35% de las cuales se renovaron esta añada.

Jeb Dunnuck:

The deep, inky-hued 2020 Château Grand-Puy Ducasse has a seriously impressive, balanced, full-bodied, structured style that's going to reward patience. Pure crème de cassis, black raspberry, graphite, lead pencil, and spring flower notes all define the bouquet, and it has plenty of background oak, a dense, chewy mid-palate, lots of tannins, and a great finish. It's going to need to be forgotten for 7-8 years but will evolve for 30 years or more.

James Suckling:

A transparent and clear young Pauillac with blackcurrant, mushroom, chocolate, and wet earth. Full-bodied, layered and flavorful with fine, velvety tannins. Plenty of graphite and blue fruit at the end. Drink after 2027.

Wine Enthusiast:

Barrel Sample. This wine is seriously structured, contrasting the dry core with juicy, fresh and fruity black currant flavors. The elements are all in place and open to view, promising a wine of longevity with balanced freshness and richness. 

Decanter:

Some grilled smoke edges to the aromatics on the first nose. This is extremely tight in its tannins, pretty austere and you need to take a beat to allow this to settle. Cassis and blueberry fruit notes help bring some juice among the tight muscular structure. The oak is a little evident overall, but this is carefully made with promise. Harvest September 15 to October 1. Drinking Window 2025-2036.
