La familia Antinori elaboró este vino por primera vez en 1978, con una mezcla inicial de Cabernet sauvignon y un porcentaje menor de Cabernet franc. En las siguientes añadas, salvo en 1979, se incorporó la Sangiovese al 'coupage'. Tal y como es ahora, este vino es un espectáculo increíble que golpea todos los sentidos. Obliga a mantener la atención puesta en él hasta que se termina la botella. Un vino muy bien estructurado con gran potencial de guarda si se le trata bien.

Ofrece un rico 'bouquet' de intensas notas de fruta negra madura, en particular arándanos y grosellas negras, que se fusionan a la perfección con agradables matices de flores secas y lavanda, acompañadas de delicados toques especiados de pimienta blanca y balsámicos de menta y eucalipto, y tonos dulces bien integrados de chocolate blanco, algodón de azúcar y frutos secos
Boca
Vino envolvente y cremoso, con taninos suaves y sedosos que culminan en un final muy elegante, largo y persistente. Agradable postgusto que recuerda al regaliz, junto a notas florales y especiadas que ya fueron detectadas antes en nariz y ahora acentúan el final.
Temperatura de servicio
Se recomienda servir a 16 °C.

Se trata de una parte del viñedo de Tignanello, con orientación suroeste, situado a 350-400 metros de altitud.
Superficie
20 hectáreas.
Suelo
Pedregoso de roca “alberese” (piedra caliza dura) y “galestro” (arcilla calcárea escamosa).
Vinificación
Despalillado de los racimos y paso por una meticulosa mesa de selección. Prensado delicado y trasiego por gravedad a la tanques de fermentación troncocónicos de 60 hectolitros de capacidad, donde permanece con sus hollejos. Maloláctica tras la separación del vino y los hollejos.
Envejecimiento
Crianza de 15 meses en barricas nuevas de roble francés. Los distintos lotes fueron envejecidos por separado, luego mezclados y reintroducidos en barricas para completar el proceso de envejecimiento.

Opinión de los críticos

Decanter:

The drought and heat of 2022 pushed vines in Tuscany to their limits, and the outcome in many cases are wines of density and concentration but with a vein of freshness – and that's exactly what we see here in the 2022 Solaia. It opens with cool aromas of damp earth, woodland berries, red fruit coulis and a waft of balsamic herbs. In the mouth it is immediately very fleshy, almost voluptuous but holding its shape. Balsam-infused black cherry and dark berries are deepened by chocolatey wood, while succulent acidity brings out the top end and leads to a long, bright, energetic and fresh finish which is full of promise for the future.

The Wine Advocate:

This is a classy and very elegant expression. The Marchesi Antinori 2022 Solaia is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller parts Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. The tannins are beautiful in this wine, very well managed with silky and chalky results. The wine unfolds beautifully over the palate, offering generous richness and seamless fruit flavors that range from blackberry to tart plum. There is never a formula for making this wine, but the best vintages of Solaia show that seamless quality that is a hallmark. You get that here in what is perhaps more accessible packaging. Some 20% of production is sold on the Place de Bordeaux.

James Suckling:

More elegant than powerful and more approachable than usual, with stunning concentration and complexity. Aromas of subtle cassis, toast, herbs and a refreshing balsamic touch. Firm on the palate, with a full body, velvety texture and moderate acidity but not at the expense of its great balance. Sleek, polished aftertaste with sweet tobacco flavors. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.
