Kumeu River Rays Road contiene el mejor Pinot noir de la bodega, y eso es decir mucho, ya que la casa neozelandesa maneja unas uvas emblemáticas. Muy suave y afrutado con gran presencia mineral.

Nariz
Brillante y fragante, con aromas a cereza madura y otros frutos rojos. También se perciben notas distintivas de hoja seca que contribuyen a su complejidad.
Boca
Suave, engañosamente concentrado, con un distintivo toque calcáreo. Es accesible ahora, y no dudamos que este complejo vino mejorará aún más con la crianza en botella.

Entre 14 y 16 °C
Maridaje
Perfecto con platos con pato.

El Pinot noir de Rays Road fue plantado por los antiguos propietarios con una variedad de clones superiores. De este sitio, se selecciona el 80% del Pinot noir de Kumeu Village. Reservan la mejor sección de este viñedo para el embotellado en Rays Road.

Vinificación
100% despalillado y estrujado. Fermentación con levadura autóctona y encubado total de 2 a 3 semanas. Remontaje o 'pigeage' tres veces al día.
Envejecimiento
Crianza de 12 meses en barricas de roble francés (10% nuevo).

The Wine Advocate:

The 2021 Ray's Road Pinot Noir is from Hawke's Bay and is a far weightier rendition than the Hunting Hill tasted next to it. Here, there is an earthy undertow of chewy grip and tannin, layers of tobacco, roasted game, cherry kirsch and summer strawberries. In the mouth, the acidity feels bright and fully resolved, as do the tannins, and the overall package is one of sleek resolution and asphalt/graphite grip. I saw this grittiness as a smoky character in the Hunting Hill, but perhaps it truly is an oak-derived character, as I see an offshoot of it here. 13% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. - Erin Larkin.
