The 2023 El Portillo is a single vineyard red from a 1.46-hectare plot called El Portillo that was planted in 1936. The plot is also located in the lieu-dit of La Nava, from which they produce their white, the higher part with clay and sand. This was produced like the wines from yesteryear, even using old places, with a lagar and a cave from the 18th and 15th centuries. This vintage fermented in an oak vat, because the lagar was too large. It's a field blend of Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), up to 15% Garnacha and 5% Valenciano (Bobal), now certified organic. It fermented with 50% full clusters that were foot trodden in lagar and matured in a 2,600-liter oak vat for 12 months. It has a ripe nose, with clear influence from the Garnacha, with notes of soy sauce, grenadine and raspberries. It's juicy and tasty, with fine-grained tannins. It has contained ripeness and 13.3% alcohol, a pH of 3.52 and 5.15 grams of acidity. It's balanced, supple and tasty. 3,120 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2024. ((Luis Gutiérrez)
