Descripción

El segundo vino de Château l'Evangile comparte características similares con el emblema de la casa pero con un periodo de crianza en barrica más corto, en parte también en cemento, para conservar su juventud y poder ser disfrutado más pronto. Se muestra perfumado con notas de chocolate negro y grosella, desplegando en boca una agradable mineralidad y un paso suave y acariciante culminando en un final especiado.

Descripción
Viñedos con certificación ecológica desde 2021 situados al sureste de Pomerol sobre una larga veta de grava, en un enclave privilegiado ya que limita al norte con Château Pétrus y al sur con Cheval Blanc en Saint-Émilion, del cual solo lo separa un camino secundario.

Arenoso-arcilloso y con grava pura, el subsuelo contiene sustratos férricos.
Clima
"Esta añada 2023 no fue una carrera contra el reloj, sino una carrera con el tiempo". De esta forma tan elocuente definen desde Lafite, casa matriz de este 'château', el devenir del ciclo en el viñedo marcado por la alternancia de largos períodos de lluvia y olas de calor.

Envejecimiento
El 80% del vino pasa su crianza en barricas, el 15% de ellas nuevas; mientras que el 20% se mantiene completamente fuera del roble, en tanque de cemento.

Opinión de los críticos

James Suckling:

The depth of fruit and creamy tannin structure show the class and beauty of this wine. It’s rich in ever-so-polished tannins that caress every inch of your palate. Medium to full body. Lovely finish. 95% merlot and 5% cabernet franc.

Decanter:

Gorgeous aromatics, perfumed and lively, really scented and lifted on the nose - dark chocolate and blackcurrant. Bright and punchy, but soft and generous too, a gravel minerality to the tannins which give the structure and coats the mouth in a fine layer of powdery, chalkiness. It’s soft and caressing, not too high in acidity at all, the tannins quite present but a nice enveloping of the mouth. Smooth and suave, but not too firm. I like the balance here, soft hints of herbal Cabernet mint and liquorice leave a lasting impression. A touch spicy on the finish but this is really charming in a gentle and calm way. Great stuff. Acidity doesn't stick out, more a Left Bank style, still with tension in the middle - it has a backbone and keeps the focus but with a gentle expansion. Ageing 20% concrete tanks, 15% new oak. 3.8pH.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2023 Blason de l'Evangile is open and giving, bursting with aromas of sweet cherries, plums, licorice and orange zest. Medium-bodied, fleshy and charming, it will drink well on release.
