The Wine Advocate:

The reds from the Mêda village—from the Mater-Dôme range—are aged for a very long time. The youngest of the two vintages I tasted, the 2009 Mater-Dôme Tinto is a serious, classical and austere blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca from a terroir of schist and granite up to 600 meters above sea level with more rain, milder summers and cooler winters. This matured in used French oak barrels for two years and 13 years in tank. 2009 was a very warm and dry year, but the wine does not show heat or excess development, it has contained ripeness and 13.5% alcohol. The wine feels very relaxed and harmonious, polished, sleek and elegant but with the Douro personality and rusticity, resolved tannins and great harmony. The nose feels young—difficult to guess the age—and developed but subtle and elegant, with notes of soil, dry leaves and herbs, spicy and intriguing. It feels very stable, and my guess is that it's going to continue like that in bottle for a long time. 4,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in 2024.
