The Wine Advocate:

A Palo Cortado produced from scratch, the 2001 Palo Cortado Vintage Sherry Macharnudo Alto Single Vineyard follows a wine from 2000 that was intended to be a Fino but was kept topped up. This is a very limited release of 974 hand-numbered half bottles with the rarity to be from a single vintage and a single vineyard and produced like it was produced in the past, selecting two botas that showed unusual finesse and complexity that, after the biological aging under flor finished, were classified as Palo Cortado. So, the wine has a biological and an oxidative profile and comes from Fino but is concentrated from age, and being a single-harvest wine concentrated it even more. It was bottled at 21.5% alcohol. It has elegance and a certain lightness, developing more complex notes of hazelnut, varnish and iron as the wine sat in the glass, with a nice combination between youth and old age. It was bottled in February 2024.
