Descripción

La Syrah de la parcela Neve, en la comuna Ampuis, se beneficia de una orientación muy privilegiada de la ladera y de una gestión biodinámica. Un tinto de profundidad con unos rasgos distintivos muy marcados, especialmente dominado por las notas de grafito y humo. En su primera añada, la 2015, obtuvo 97 puntos Parker. Todo un estreno para una Syrah de la Côte Rôtie tremendamente prometedora que en esta añada 2020 se presenta como extraordinaria en palabras de la propia bodega.

Los viñedos están en una ladera de la localidad de Neve en el municipio de Ampuis, con exposición sur-sureste.

Clima
La añada 2020 en el Ródano contó con un ciclo vegetativo similar al de 2003, 2005 y 2015, ya que las temperaturas fueron más altas de lo habitual, provocando un rápido desarrollo de la vid hasta la floración. No se habían visto niveles tan altos de estrés hídrico desde hacía 18 años, pero gracias a la labor de observación y cuidado del suelo se pudo encauzar la situación, mejorando la concentración de niveles de azúcar y acidez. Una cosecha que seguro va a ofrecer muchos éxitos en el futuro gracias a su potencial de guarda.

Vendimia manual.
Vinificación
Despalillado. Fermentación espontánea durante 5 semanas con levaduras autóctonas en depósitos de hormigón sin superar los 30-32 ºC. Pigeages. La maceración se completa con una agitación de las lías en las últimas 3 semanas. Luego pasa a barrica después de su escurrentía y sedimentación de 24 a 48 horas para eliminar cualquier materia sólida restante y las lías más gruesas.
Envejecimiento
Crianza de entre 14 y 18 meses en barricas de roble francés de 228 litros. Entre un 25% y un 30% de las barricas son nuevas.

How is it possible to marry this kind of syrah power with the extraordinary refinement of this Cote-Rotie? It just glides effortlessly over your palate. Then, right at the end, the power creeps up on you and inexorably pulls you into its orbit, as if this was the planet Jupiter. Amazing mineral intensity at the dazzling finish. From a vineyard at the north of the appellation on pure mica-schist soil. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.

Jeb Dunnuck:

Brilliant all the way, and possibly the finest vintage for this cuvée to date, the 2020 Côte Rôtie Nève is 100% Syrah from mica schist soils in the northern part of the appellation and was destemmed and is still resting in 30% new demi-muids. Gorgeous pure cassis fruit as well as crushed stone, graphite, and violet notes define the bouquet, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with terrific concentration, ultra-fine yet certainly present tannins, and a great finish. This structured yet flawlessly put together Côte Rôtie will benefit from short-term cellaring and keep for 15-20 years.

Decanter:

A little spicier and earthier than La Mordorée this year, more savoury. Medium-bodied, precise and dry - packed full of dense, ripe tannins. Very ripe, with a good sense of harmony and integration. Excellent balance. Long finish. Ripe and seductive, without overt oak influence. The alcohol is high but doesn't feel unbalanced thanks to the concentration of fruit.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2020 Cote Rotie Neve is full of purple raspberries but dressed up with hints of dried herbs, particularly mint. It's medium to full-bodied, not as rich or complete as the Mordoree, but it is silky, elegant and long. It should be another terrific vintage of this relatively new parcellaire bottling.
