Bruto Monastrell 2023

2023 was a warm and dry year with low yields and powerful wines but with more freshness than in 2022. The 2023 Monastrell is from an ungrafted property at 800 meters above sea level. It fermented in small stainless steel tanks with neutral yeasts and matured in French and American oak barrels. It's a lot less oaky than expected, especially in comparison with the wines from El Nido. This has more Monastrell, with notes of ripe berries and Mediterranean herbs, heady and powerful. It's ripe at 15% alcohol with a pH of 3.63 and 5.4 grams of acidity. It has abundant tannins that are going to require time in bottle and/or powerful food. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2025.
