Parcela situado en el paraje de Biurko. Con orientación oeste situada en Elvillar a 600 metros de altitud.

Viña plantada en 1960.
Suelo
Franco con presencia de limo en profundidad y arenas y carbonato cálcico de granulometría gruesa en el subsuelo.
Clima
El ciclo vegetativo de la añada 2023 comenzó con un invierno seco, que dio paso a una primavera con importantes variaciones térmicas y escasas precipitaciones. El desarrollo vegetativo se llevó a cabo en perfectas condiciones, ya que las temperaturas fueron propicias en los momentos clave como la brotación y la floración. Tras un verano muy cálido con temperaturas medias superiores a 30 ºC, llegaron las lluvias a comienzos de septiembre, cruciales para mitigar la sequía en el viñedo. La vendimia transcurrió sin mayores contratiempos y terminó a mediados de septiembre.

The Wine Advocate:

I found some spicy oak in the unbottled sample of the 2023 La Poza de Ballesteros. They harvested earlier in search of removing the ripeness and gaining in tension; but the aromatics of the 2023s are of ripe fruit, and this is no exception—it's faintly balsamic too. But the palate is finer-boned and has more elegance and freshness and comes through as finer-boned. It has a little lower alcohol, 14.4%. There will be around 4,000 bottles, which they expect to bottle after the 2025 winter, in May or June. (Luis Guitérrez) 

James Suckling:

Excellent depth here, showing flint, spices and rich but racy plums and berries. Layered and generous with full body. A bit more structured this year, but tightly wound tannins are still quite fine and taut. Really long. From organically grown grapes. Drink from 2027.

Carlos López de Lacalle talks about the 1.18-hectare source of La Poza de Ballasteros as one of his best balanced vineyards because of its water-holding capacity and west-facing aspect.
