Descripción

No se acaba el idilio entre la crítica y este tinto parcelario alumbrado por el proyecto conjunto de Alejandro Vigil y Adrianna Catena. Tras los 100 Parker otorgados a su añada 2013, esta 2019 vuelve a alcanzar la máxima puntuación, también obtenida de manos de James Suckling. Mucho puede decirse de este coupage de Cabernet franc y Malbec de viñedos cultivados a más de 1.400 metros de altitud pero nada es comparable con el privilegio de disfrutar de su refinamiento, elegancia y longitud.

Descripción
Viñedo situado a una altitud de 1.430 metros de altitud sobre el nivel del mar.
Suelo
Calcáreo y rocoso.
Clima
Continental semiárido. 2019 fue seco con unas precipitaciones entre un 20 y un 60% más bajas que habitualmente y, en general, temperaturas más frías.
Cosecha
La vendimia tuvo lugar entre una y tres semanas antes de lo habitual. Los rendimiento también fueron ligeramente inferiores y las uvas recogidas de pequeño tamaño. La cosecha fue realizada en cinco tiempos, con un lapso de tiempo de un mes y medio entre la primera y la última.
Vinificación
Las uvas fueron sometidas a la fermentación en barricas de roble francés de segundo y tercer uso a una temperatura media de 23 °C, con maceración en frío durante cuatro días. La vinificación tuvo lugar con el 40% de los racimos enteros y la maceración posfermentativa se alargó 26 días.
Envejecimiento
Crianza de 15 meses en fudre de 100 años.
Embotellado
En julio de 2020.

The Wine Advocate:

The incredibly subtle, elegant and austere 2019 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard reminds me of a great vintage of Lafleur, my favorite Bordeaux, as this is one of the finest vintages for this single-vineyard blend of Cabernet Franc with some 15% Malbec. It develops very slowly in the glass and shows layers and layers of aromas but all in a very subtle way. It also reminds me of the fabulous 2013 that I rated 100 points in 2018, and there has not been such a perfect vintage since then. It has great balance and a silky mouthfeel, with refined, elegant tannins and a long, dry finish with a chalky and salty sensation and no room for sweetness; it's more about herbs, flowers and rocks than anything else. They produced 9,000 bottles of this beauty. It was bottled in July 2020.

James Sukling:

A complex, restrained and deliciously austere cabernet franc with damp earth, oyster shells, blueberries, thyme, rosemary and mushrooms. Super serious and chalky on the palate with lots of dissolved, minerally-textured tannins. Very long and uncompromising! An incredible cabernet franc from Gualtallary by Alejandro Vigil. Extremely pure, mineral and seductive. A fabulous cabernet franc that grows on the palate with remarkable tension and texture. I’d want to drink a bottle now even it can hold extremely well.
