Descripción

Valbuena es la expresión más pura del tinto de Vega Sicilia, con una crianza que, entre madera y botella, alcanza una duración de cinco años dando así nombre al vino: Valbuena 5º. Un reserva de gran recorrido y riqueza aromática que representa la línea más moderna de la bodega, con un estilo distinto a Único, el otro gran tinto de la casa. La añada 2015 resulta concentrada y potente a la vez que sedosa y profunda.

Vista
Rojo burdeos con ribetes cardenalicios.
Nariz
Aromas potentes a fruta perfectamente madura como grosellas y arándanos combinados con aromas de roble muy fino y para nada dominante. Toques balsámicos típicos del terruño de Vega Sicilia.
Boca
Sedoso, envolviendo la boca de intensidad y vainilla. Textura auténticamente refinada y final de casis.
Temperatura de servicio
18 ºC.
Consumo
Óptimo hasta 2040-2045 aproximadamente si se conserva en buenas condiciones.

Viñedos plantados a una altura entre los 700 y los 900 metros sobre el nivel del mar.
Superficie
Le domaine possède 210 hectares, dont seuls certains sont utilisés pour élaborer Valbuena.

Media de 35 años.
Suelo
Arcillo-calcáreo, con zonales pardos y una parte aluvial.
Clima
El otoño, algo más seco de lo habitual, dio paso a un invierno que dejó una buena cantidad de agua para afrontar el crecimiento de la planta. Pese a ello, la ausencia de lluvias al comienzo de la primavera hizo que la brotación sufriera un retraso respecto a un año normal. Circunstancia que quedaría paliada a finales de la estación. Finalmente, el caluroso verano ayudó a conseguir una cosecha muy sana y ligeramente adelantada.
Rendimiento
3.600 kilogramos por hectárea.
Cosecha
Vendimia manual llevada a cabo entre el 15 de septiembre y el 3 de octubre, en cajas de 12 kilos.
Envejecimiento
5 años entre madera y botella. El primer año en barrica es especialmente importante, ya que busca aportar esqueleto al vino para terminar de hacerse grande en tinos de madera, donde muestra el extraordinario cambio en su textura, ganando en precisión, elegancia, tensión y sutileza.

James Suckling:

The aromas to this are so complex and enticing with nutmeg, dark berries, chocolate and white pepper. Full body. Dense and layered with so much wonderful, complex and succulent character. It just makes you want to drink it. Drink or hold.

 

The Wine Advocate:

The 2015 Valbuena, a red blend of mostly Tempranillo with some 5% Merlot, is released in the fifth year after the harvest. It's explosive and showy, with a complex nose that shows a mixture of flowers and wild herbs, balsamic touches and great nuance. This wine has gained in complexity since the 2010 vintage, where they implemented some changes that increased the expressivity and precision of this wine. The tannins are fine-grained and there is very good balance, and the warm conditions of the year have been absorbed well by the wine. Despite the natural conditions of the year, the wine follows the path of freshness of the 2010. 173,673 bottles, 5,625 magnums and some larger formats produced. It was bottled in June 2018.

 

Decanter:

Valbuena is moving on up. Undoubtedly it needs time to blossom, but the building blocks are firmly in place. The oak is very refined, the fruit is dark and intense. Yet it's fresh, and with a welcome savoury spice to counterbalance the richness. The finish is very long, with a fine texture and that keynote lift of acidity. This needs time to come to its full potential. The Tinto Fino is blended with just 5% Merlot. Drinking Window 2025 - 2035

Tim Atkin:

This is one of the best Valbuenas I've ever tasted, a still youthful cuvée of Tempranillo with 5% Merlot. Made grapes from Vega's north-facing vineyards in the western part of the Denominación de Origen, it's a refined, layered, subtly wooded red with some spice from partial American oak ageing, notes of fresh tobacco, raspberry and bramble fruit, very fine tannins and a core of acidity that's unusual in 2015. 2022-35
