Descripción

Perteneciente a la colección de "selecciones parcelarias" de M. Chapoutier, los vinos de Ermitage poseen un rico pasado histórico. Personajes como Alejandro Dumas o el zar Nicolás II se encontraban entre sus asiduos. La parcela Le Pavillon se vinifica desde 1989 y cuenta con una producción de unas 7.000 botellas anuales, lo que nos da una idea de lo pequeña y escasa que puede llegar a ser. En su historia, ha sido 10 veces calificado con 100 puntos Parker y entre la añada 2009 y la 2012 este vino recibió 100 puntos Parker de forma consecutiva.

Vista
Rojo granate profundo con luces moradas.
Nariz
Alquitranado y ahumado, con notas de frambuesa, mora, nuez y regaliz.
Boca
Complejo, con un potente ataque. Después se muestra equilibrado con un final largo y notas de regaliz, tabaco y cacao.
Temperatura de servicio
Se recomienda servir a 16 ºC.
Consumo
Óptimo hasta 2045 aproximadamente si se conserva en óptimas condiciones.

Sedimentario sobre subsuelo granítico.
Cosecha
Las uvas se recogen a mano en el límite de su sobre maduración. Debido a su edad, dan muy bajos rendimientos.
Vinificación
Completamente despalilladas, se realizan de una a dos pisadas diarias para asegurar una buena extracción. Las uvas fermentan en tanques de hormigón a una temperatura que no excede los 32ºC. La maceración dura entre unas 4 a 5 semanas, solo se usa el mosto flor.
Envejecimiento
El vino se cría durante 18 a 20 meses en barricas de roble francés (con un 30% de roble nuevo).

Coming all from the pure granite soils of the Bessards lieu-dit, on the western side of Hermitage, the 2018 Ermitage Le Pavillon is 100% Syrah that was all destemmed and aged 18 months in just 15% new French oak. This beauty has closed down since bottling and will need considerable bottle age, but it’s a beauty. Deep purple-hued, with a meaty, gamey bouquet of black and blue fruits, crushed rock, liquid violets, olives, and acacia flowers, this sensational wine hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a tight, backward mouthfeel, present tannins, and a great finish. As I wrote last year, this isn't for those seeking instant gratification and a solid 7-8 years of bottle age are warranted, but I suspect it will earn a triple-digit score at maturity and should have 40-50 years of longevity.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2018 Ermitage le Pavillon is a plush, full-bodied beauty that combines fruity notes of blueberries with savory notes of black olives and marries them together with rich, earthy notes. Almost creamy across the mid-palate, it finishes with soft waves of velvety tannins. I expect this will firm up a bit prior to bottling, then drink well for two decades.

Decanter:

This is silky with real tannic finesse and while it doesn't have the intensity of some vintages it has beautiful balance and purity with sweet plum, violets and blueberry. It’s not as long as some but still displays that Bessards straightness of character. Will drink soon. Drinking Window 2022 - 2033.
