Descripción

Muy floral, fresco e impecablemente elaborado. Esas son las credenciales de la añada 2020, aún en bodega, de Château d’Aiguilhe, una de las apuestas personales de Stephan von Neipperg. Esta nueva cosecha vuelve a ser la expresión fiel del singular terroir de Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux y, a juicio del crítico Jeb Dunnuck, "una de las gemas valiosas" que dejará 2020 en Burdeos.

Cosecha
Vendimia manual efectuada del 17 al 28 de septiembre de 2020 en pequeñas cajas.
Vinificación
Selección de racimos antes y después de su despalillado. Las uvas entran a las tinas de madera por gravedad para cumplimentar el proceso de fermentación temperatura controlada durante 40 días. Extracción mediante perforación neumática del sombrero. Fermentación maloláctica en barrica.
Envejecimiento
De 15 a 18 meses en barricas de roble francés con sus lías. El 30% del vino pasa su crianza en barricas nuevas.

Opinión de los críticos

Decanter:

Violet reflections, great clarity of colour and immediate whoosh of salinity through the redcurrant fruits. Powerful and focused with bright berry flavours, it practically defines the term crunchy fruit, then softens to show creamier black cherry purée as it relaxes in the glass. Really a very tasty d'Aiguilhe from Vignobles Comtes von Neipperg. Extremely moreish. Harvest September 17– 28, 30% new oak. Drinking Window 2023-2034.

James Suckling:

Black cherry, black berry and orange peel with some cedar aromas, follow through to a medium body with fine and chalky tannins. Dried herb and bark undertones. Some salt, too. Drink or hold.

Jeb Dunnuck:

I loved the nose of the 2020 Château D'Aiguilhe, which is loaded with pure, clean cassis and raspberry-like fruits well as white flowers, crushed stone, and even a touch of blue fruits with time in the glass. It’s very floral, fresh, and medium-bodied and is impeccably made. It’s well worth seeking out and should be one of the value gems in the vintage.

The Wine Advocate:

Aromas of cassis, dark berries and cherries mingle with subtle hints of incense and spices in an inviting bouquet to introduce the 2020 d'Aiguilhe, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered wine with powdery tannins and the lively acids that are typical of this later-ripening, limestone-rich sector. Always a notable value, this age-worthy cuvée has turned out very well this year.
