Montes Obarenes 2022

Quite energetic on the nose, showing minerals, salted lemons and fine cream. This has a supple, round texture, almost full-bodied on the palate with a long, smooth finish. Poised. Not a vintage with high acidity. A blend of viura, tempranillo blanco, garnacha blanca, malvasia and calagrano. From 80-year-old vines. Drink or hold.
The white 2022 Montes Obarenes was produced with a blend of 60% Viura, 25% Tempranillo Blanco and 5% each Calagraño, Garnacha Blanca and Malvasía Riojana. It has a bright, almost fluorescent yellow color, a good sign to me, with a very expressive and nuanced nose of spice, cereal, smoke, flowers, pollen and white and yellow fruit, with a spicy palate and a medium-bodied mouthfeel, with a certain lightness despite the 14% alcohol. It's very tasty and should develop further complexity with more time in bottle. 6,796 numbered bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2023.
Named after the mountains close to Haro that are the gateway to the Rioja region, Montes Obarenes is an effortlessly complex, well-balanced blend of Viura, 25% Tempranillo Blanco and 10% Calagraño, Garnacha Blanca and Malvasía. Mixing oaked and concrete-aged components, it has aromas of lanolin and thatch, a layered palate of lemongrass, pear and passion fruit and a hint of flinty reduction. 2027-35

S'apparente beaucoup à certains vins bourguignons entre Beaune et Montagny.
Dará mucho que hablar con años de evolución .....
