Terrenus Reserva Vinhas Velhas Tinto 2015

The 2015 Terrenus Reserva Vinhas Velhas is a field blend (principally Aragonez, Trincadeira, Grand Noir and Alicante Bouschet in roughly 20% chunks, plus others like Castelão, Alfrocheiro, Moreto and Baga), aged for 20 months in 50% new French oak. It comes in at 14.2% alcohol. Unlike the 2013, this is a bit delicate, but its structure might be even better than the 2013. At once elegant and intense, this is beautifully structured. It is a remarkably fresh red with superb mid-palate finesse and a serious backbone. That's not all, though, as the fruit delivers plenty of flavor and in waves, varying between beef, strawberries and cherries. When first seen, this was a bit closed, but it has certainly blossomed. It no longer quite seems thin—it is just that old-school finesse. It is very sophisticated. The finish is very long too, and this has persistence. It may yet improve more. Overall, I'd still take the 2013 revisited this issue for its more concentrated mid-palate, but this has virtues of its own and it is certainly more elegant.
