Descripción

Este coupage de Cabernet sauvignon, Merlot y Petit verdot procede de un château clasificado Grand Cru Classé en la prestigiosa subregión de Graves. Las primeras catas de esta añada 2019 vuelve a traer excelentes valoraciones, destacando su redondez, elegancia y carácter.

Nariz
Excepcionalmente aromático gracias a las notas de grosella negra y anacardo aportadas por la Cabernet sauvignon, a las que se suman arándanos y especias propios de la Petit verdot.
Boca
La Merlot deja una boca afrutada, suave y delicadamente sedosa que deja también percibir los taninos potentes y aterciopelado y el final fresco, jugoso y con una sensación de dulzura de la Verdot y la Cabernet.

Clima
Continental. El año 2019 estuvo marcado por distintos sucesos climáticos que hicieron que esta cosecha fuera bastante técnica. La brotación fue temprana pero la primavera fría y húmeda condujo a la floración tardía de las vides. El verano destacó por la ola de calor que tuvo lugar a finales de junio. El viñedo resistió bien a la sequía estival y al estrés hídrico. Las lluvias inesperadas a finales de julio permitieron la finalización completa del envero.
Rendimiento
45 hectolitros por hectárea.
Cosecha
Vendimia manual llevada a cabo desde el 19 de septiembre hasta el 11 de octubre de 2019.
Vinificación
Fermentación en depósitos de acero inoxidable termorregulados.
Envejecimiento
Envejce en barricas de roble francés (el 40% nuevas), entre 18 y 20 meses.

The Wine Advocate:

Composed of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot, harvested from the 19th of September to the 11th of October, the 2019 Latour Martillac came in at yields of 45 hectoliters per hectare with an alcohol of 14.2% and pH of 3.7. It is being aged in French oak barrels, 40% new. Deep garnet-purple in color, it sashays of of the glass with alluring scents of kirsch, Black Forest cake and warm cassis plus hints of lavender, forest floor, iron ore and tree bark. Medium-bodied, the palate is elegant and refreshing, giving layers of black berries and mineral notions with a finely grained frame and lifted finish. Gorgeous!

Suckling:

A solid, structured red with chocolate, spice and currants. Full-bodied, bright and polished. Very well done. Impressed.

Decanter:

Raspberry, blackberry and blueberry fruit, juicy and restrained with great balance, touches of earthiness and forest floor. An attractive fruit-forward wine that has depth and expands through the mid palate, with the Petit Verdot adding complexity and spice. A yield of 42hl/ha. Drinking Window 2024 - 2040.

The flagship 2019 Château Latour-Martillac offers classic Graves gravelly earth as well as ample chocolaty black fruits, truffle, and meaty, smoky notes. This rich, mouthfilling, nicely concentrated 2019 has sweet tannin, a rounded mid-palate, sweet tannins, and a great finish. It's up with the finest vintages I've tasted from this estate.
