The more recent 2014 Pegaso Barrancos de Pizarra was finally my favorite of all the bottles I tasted in this sitting, which were quite a few. This aged in ancient large clay amphorae and used 500- and 600-liter French oak barrels for two years and shows no oak whatsoever in the nose or palate. The year seems to have achieved a perfect ripening of the grapes, and there are notes of aromatic herbs and acid berries, even a touch of blood orange. There are no hints of over-ripeness at all. Seeing how the 2002 has aged and how the 2008 was showing today, I have no doubt this 2014 will live for 15 years. 13,951 bottles produced.
Very focused fruit here with bright, blueberry aromas and flavors. Medium body. Tangy and firm. Extremely pure and bright. Vibrant. Garnacha. Drink now.
