Miguel Merino Reserva 2012

As it always does, Miguel Merino's Reserva comes from three different soil types and is an assemblage of Tempranillo with 4% Graciano. Aged in 70% new mixed French and American barrels, this is smoky and intense, with notes of wild thyme and damson and sinewy tannins. 2020-28.
Big blackberry, chocolate and caramel nose with some spicy oak. This is a pretty bold wine on the palate, but the tannins are not out of line and the overall impression is of expansiveness rather than heaviness. Relatively supple finish. Drink or hold.
