Descripción

Château Lynch-Bages es el vino top de la maison del mismo nombre, propiedad de Jean-Michel Cazes, catalogada como quinto Grand Cru Classé en la clasificación oficial de 1855. Se trata de un burdeos de estilo clásico y equilibrado que busca la elegancia en el coupage clásico de la región. Esta añada 2022 es como su elaboración, precisa y persistente. Un vino "de alta definición" e "impresionante", en palabras de Georgia Hindle, crítica de Decanter, que destaca por sus notas florales, su mineralidad y una acidez equilibrada que le sostendrá durante las próximas décadas.

Viñedo y elaboración

Descripción
Viñedo ubicado al sur y suroeste de Pauillac. La combinación de la barrera natural que supone el bosque de Las Landes y la proximidad del océano Atlántico y del estuario del Gironda influyen decisivamente en la regulación de las temperaturas en la zona creando un microclima muy específico.

Cosecha
Vendimia manual efectuada del 12 al 24 de septiembre. El 70% de la cosecha del 'château' se destinó a la elaboración de este vino. La primera selección de las uvas tuvo lugar en mesas móviles en el propio viñedo.
Vinificación
Nada más llegar a la zona de recepción, las uvas se despalillaron y se seleccionaron manualmente de nuevo, ya por tercera vez, en mesas vibratorias. A continuación pasaron por gravedad primero a minicubas de siete hectolitros y luego a cada depósito sin necesidad de bombeo. Adaptación precisa del proceso de vinificación al mapeo intraparcela del viñedo en 80 cubas isotérmicas cónicas de nueva generación con control de temperatura individual y bombas especialmente adaptadas a las operaciones de remontado facilitando la extracción de taninos.
Envejecimiento
Crianza de 18 meses en barrica de roble francés (un 75% nueva).

Opinión de los críticos

James Suckling:

A terrific Lynch from a hot vintage with blackcurrants, mint, dried lavender, graphite and thyme on the nose and palate. Medium- to full-bodied, it shows fantastic tannins with a lovely texture that reminds me of cashmere, becoming slightly chewy in the finish. Give this four to five years of bottle age. Try after 2028.

Decanter:

Blackcurrant and bramble fruit with savoury herbal nuances on the nose, this smells rich and potent. Tense and focussed, compact from the get go, present tannins give grip and hold. This is definitely not out to charm, more serious, stern and focussed but there's such overall precision. This is in high definition, supremely controlled and well worked with mouthfilling ripe tannins. I like the chewy aspect and there’s balancing acidity, hidden now by the density, that will sustain the wine for decades to come. Floral notes and some minerality come through giving the nuance so it’s not all heft, but there’s clear muscle on show. A long finish gives the sense of structure and style. An impressive wine. 95 IPT. 3.71pH. Ageing 18 months, 75% new oak. 3% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 4.1 g/L total acidity. Harvest 12 September - 24 September.

Falstaff:

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, brightening on the rim. Delicate leather and nougat, hints of mint and cassis, black forest berries in the background, orange zest. Juicy palate, complex, blackberries, ripe cherries, some nougat, ripe, supporting tannins, mineral and long lasting, certain ageing potential.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2022 Lynch-Bages is one of the most muscular, chunky wines of the vintage in the Médoc, offering up aromas of dark berries, cherry preserve, pencil shavings and creamy new oak, followed by a full-bodied, rich and extracted palate that's dense and blocky. While Lynch-Bages always seems to come together with time, the 2022 is certainly going to require some patience.
