There’s a touch of incense to the aromas here, leading to a palate that is powerful with good weight of fruit, but also fresh. The tannins are large and butch and will take time to come around, and there’s a touch of bitterness; it needs more time in barrel, which it will get. Perfect fruit ripeness. This is a good vintage of Les Greffieux, in a firm and structured style and with only moderate alcohol. It has classic Hermitage shape and proportions. First Hermitage to harvest, as there weren’t many grapes and low yields.
