The current and 17th release of the non-vintage red that made them famous, the NV Caballo Loco N 17 is 50% the blend of N 16 plus the 2012 and 2013 vintages. It had lactic and herbal aromas and felt very young and undeveloped compared with the other versions. The solera wine is from vineyards in multiple valleys in Central Chile using different grapes—Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Malbec and Carignan. This is always roasted, balsamic and smoky. It seems like this edition marked a change in tendency in the alcohol level, which was lowered to 14,3%, perhaps with the return of Syrah (this time from Limarí!), or most probably the addition of Carignan. Somehow I like the youth and the chewy fruit of this blend. It seems like the new varieties bring a dimension that the wine didn't have before. 36,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2015. - Luis Gutiérrez.
