Description

Le Pago Valdebellón, fait par l', est un pur Cabernet sauvignon qui vient d'un terroir pauvre et calcaire avec une texture limoneuse, qui profite d'un microclimat spécial. Ce cépage a trouvé une seconde maison sympa dans cette abbaye, vu ses résultats année après année. Ce millésime 2016 est super complexe et intense, avec plein de nuances marquées par le caractère de ce raisin.

Les vignobles, situés à Sardón de Duero (Valladolid), s'étendent sur des coteaux orientés au nord, jusqu'à 850 mètres d'altitude.

Vignoble planté entre 1991 et 1994.

Calcaire avec une texture limoneuse.
Climat
Les mois d'automne, d'hiver et de printemps ont été super pluvieux et froids, ce qui a retardé le bourgeonnement. Les mois d'été ont été chauds et secs, ce qui a permis de rattraper le cycle, qui avait pris beaucoup de retard. La véraison a commencé début août pour les cépages précoces et 10 à 15 jours plus tard pour les autres cépages. Les températures élevées ont causé un stress hydrique important aux plantes, et septembre a été le mois le plus chaud jamais enregistré à Abadia Retuerta.

The Wine Advocate:

Valdebellón and Negralada, their single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, respectively, are released as part of their Añadas Históricas library release of selected wines. The 2016 Pago Valdebellón, despite the higher yields and more elegant wines, still reached 15% alcohol, but it also has more freshness and acidity and comes through as lively and young-ish. It matured in barrel for 16 months. There is some evolution here; this wine and the 2015 show a metallic twist, but it's subtler here, with notes of brick dust and something oily and reminiscent of olives. The palate is polished, and the tannins have been resolved. I wouldn't keep it for much longer. In 2025, they are releasing 1,100 bottles. It was bottled in May 2018. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Blackcurrants, blackberries, tobacco, dried herbs, ink and bitter chocolate on the nose. It’s full-bodied, ripe and intense with firm, fine tannins. Compact and supple with excellent length. Drink now or hold.
