Muito cotizado e sempre entre os melhores, este Premier Cru Classé destaca-se por ser um dos vinhos mais potentes e exuberantes de Bordéus. Seguindo a tendência da região, 2024 foi o resultado de um ano de clima complexo que realçou o carácter atlântico dos terroirs de origem deste tinto icónico.

Como em cada colheita, a parte superior do rótulo exibirá uma ilustração de um artista que não será revelada até 1 de dezembro de 2026. Figuras como Miró, Chagall, Braque, Picasso, Tàpies, Francis Bacon, Dali, Balthus ou Jeff Koons tiveram a honra de participar neste projeto.

Nariz
Refinado e complexo, abre-se gradualmente em aromas de mirtilos silvestres e frutos vermelhos realçados por notas de brioche e um delicado toque floral. Notas de amêndoa torrada conferem-lhe uma suculência subtil que completa o conjunto.
Boca
Encorpado e suave, a sua textura sedosa e harmoniosa envolve o paladar, introduzindo uma impressão de opulência que se mistura com uma mineralidade atraente e algumas notas fumadas. Os taninos, muito refinados, precisos e cincelados, conferem equilíbrio e estrutura, enquanto as notas luminosas de frutos vermelhos prolongam-se num final longo, deixando uma impressão persistente de frescura e elegância.

Vinhas plantadas em montículos (daí o nome do «château») numa estreita faixa de 80 quilómetros de comprimento e 5 a 10 quilómetros de largura perto do rio Gironda, que lhes proporciona reservas hídricas profundas. A propriedade limita a norte com a floresta de Las Landas, que funciona como uma barreira protetora, suavizando as temperaturas, também mais moderadas pela influência do rio. A propriedade goza de condições naturais excecionais, desde a qualidade dos seus solos até à sua exposição e luz solar ideais.

2024 foi uma colheita difícil no início e no final do período vegetativo, embora, felizmente, o tempo tenha melhorado nos momentos críticos, permitindo preservar a qualidade. O verão quente, seco e ensolarado provocou uma escassez de água que favoreceu os taninos maduros e fomentou a síntese de antocianinas. Desde o trabalho na terra na primavera até à vindima, o pessoal empenhado e meios técnicos muito eficazes mantiveram o 'château' na primeira linha. Esta gestão afinada da vinha ajudou a produzir vinhos frescos, muito aromáticos, refinados e elegantes, que ilustram na perfeição a expressão atlântica dos terroirs de onde provêm. James Suckling:

This shows plenty of drive with dusty and creamy tannins that run the length of the wine and builds at the end. It’s medium-bodied showing a focus and energy. Dark currants and flowers flavor. This really has length and it has the depth to improve with age. 93% cabernet sauvignon and 7% merlot.

Tim Atkin:

The alluring exuberance of Mouton is already here. Saturated blue and black fruits. Spices and some clay earthiness with plenty of dried fruit already and fresh but not overpowering acidity, bright tannins already in harmony with the level of fruit. This is not a deep or richly profound Mouton, but an elegant and fresh example which captures the style of the vintage and belies its likely quality reputation. Very well done to Jean- Emmanual Danjoy and his team.

Decanter:

Sweet blackcurrants, orange rind, violets, plums, cherry cream and some liquorice. Round and filling, this is dense and intense with prominent tannins, a juicy core and lots of structure. It’s forward and really intense with fine, mineral-edged tannins. Sophisticated and really generous, ample and persistent with such a fleshy mouthfeel. Zero wood. This is just brilliant - fresh, lively, zingy and ample. Lovely finesse too. There’s acidity for sure, but there’s creaminess to counter it. A marvelous Mouton. Ageing 100% new barrels, 18 months. 3.71pH. (Georgina Hindle)

One of the wines of the vintage, if not the wine of the vintage, the 2024 Château Mouton Rothschild checks in as a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot, hitting 12.9% alcohol and a pH of 3.71, that's resting in 100% new barrels. It sports a dense purple hue as well as absolutely rocking aromatics of blackcurrants, freshly sharpened pencils, graphite, and smoked tobacco. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a layered, opulent mouthfeel, velvety tannins, ample mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It's an incredible achievement in the vintage that will need just 4-6 years of bottle age and have a broad, lengthy drinking window. Hats off to technical director Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy and the entire Mouton team.

Vinous:

The 2024 Mouton Rothschild, which has a little more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, was picked between September 23 and October 5 and aged for 18 months in 100% new oak. This has an understated bouquet with blackberry, cedar and graphite scents that take their time to unfold. The nose possesses very fine delineation though the oak is a little more prominent at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied and quite linear in style with fine tannins. A less flamboyant Mouton Rothschild in keeping with the style of the vintage, the 2024 discretely gains depth towards the finish and reveals a dash of white pepper on the aftertaste. Harvested between September 23 and October 5, the 2024 Mouton Rothschild is a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot that attained 12.9% alcohol. Offering up aromas of crème de cassis, cigar wrapper and pencil shavings, it's medium to full-bodied, dense and layered, with a muscular, monolithic style built around austere, chalky tannins. Somewhat reminiscent of the estate's 2001 vintage (which is just coming around today at age 24), this structured, youthfully angular Mouton will require patience. (William Kelley)
