Os vinhedos, que ficam em Sardón de Duero (Valladolid), se espalham pelas encostas voltadas para o norte, até alturas que chegam a 850 metros.
Idade
Vinha plantada entre 1991 e 1994.
Solo
Calcário com textura argilosa.
Clima
Os meses de outono, inverno e primavera foram bem chuvosos e frios, o que atrasou a brotação. Os meses de verão foram quentes e secos, permitindo avançar com o ciclo, que estava bem atrasado. A pintor começou no início de agosto para as variedades precoces e entre 10 e 15 dias mais tarde para as restantes variedades. As altas temperaturas causaram um forte stress hídrico na planta, e setembro foi o mês mais quente da história em Abadia Retuerta.

Valdebellón and Negralada, their single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, respectively, are released as part of their Añadas Históricas library release of selected wines. The 2016 Pago Valdebellón, despite the higher yields and more elegant wines, still reached 15% alcohol, but it also has more freshness and acidity and comes through as lively and young-ish. It matured in barrel for 16 months. There is some evolution here; this wine and the 2015 show a metallic twist, but it's subtler here, with notes of brick dust and something oily and reminiscent of olives. The palate is polished, and the tannins have been resolved. I wouldn't keep it for much longer. In 2025, they are releasing 1,100 bottles. It was bottled in May 2018. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Blackcurrants, blackberries, tobacco, dried herbs, ink and bitter chocolate on the nose. It’s full-bodied, ripe and intense with firm, fine tannins. Compact and supple with excellent length. Drink now or hold.
