Description
Ce vin blanc d'Abeica est fait avec du Viura qui vient d'une parcelle de vignes super anciennes à Ábalos. Il est frais et léger, plein d'arômes de pomme verte et de poire qui se mélangent sur un fond toasté et crémeux du fût où il a fait sa fermentation et un léger élevage. Une merveille complexe et super élégante.

A precise, exciting viura that’s a real discovery from Rioja. Reductive, with lots of flint and roasted white sesame seeds, but so pure and incisive, with limes and green apples. Such energy on the palate that's all about sharpened acidity and limey fruit. Tense and medium-bodied but really intense, with a lightly saline finish. Long, mouthwatering and delicious. From vines in Abalo that are close to 60 years old. More of a Chablis style of viura. A great value. Drink now.
The white here is the 2022 Abaris, produced with grapes from two old plots of Viura, is a certified village wine that was fermented in used 500-liter barrels where it matured for 11 months with the lees but without bâtonnage. It's powerful, with 14.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.3 and seven grams of acidity, reflecting well the warm and dry year that burned a lot of malic acid in the grapes, but they balanced it out with an earlier harvest. The whites were not the first to be picked, but by adjusting the picking dates, the wines keep unusual freshness and balance. It has a nose of pollen, flowers and spice and is chalky and rocky, with a stony sensation and the oak very subtle and very integrated. The wine is serious, austere and mineral, a triumph over the conditions of the vintage. 3,100 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2024. This wine was first produced in 2016 and, since 2019, using 500-liter barrels. (Luis Guitérrez)
