Mauro Molino Barolo DOCG Gallinotto 2021

This is a proprietary vineyard name, and in most years, the fruit hails from Berri in La Morra. The Mauro Molino 2021 Barolo Gallinotto has a little more fruit definition and a little less mineral definition compared to the estate's village bottling. The wine ferments in stainless steel and continues to barrique for malolactic fermentation, then it ends up in both small and larger oak vessels for aging. I found earthy notes of tree bark and iris root at the core of this pretty wine, but it settles to reveal pressed flowers and forest berry. This is a release of 10,000 bottles.
The cranberry, orange and floral character is so compelling, with a medium body and ultra-fine tannins that are integrated and vivid. Crisp acidity backs it up. Needs time to soften, but a gorgeous young red. Drink after 2028.
