Château Poujeaux is een van de meest prestigieuze rode wijnen uit de Bordeaux-subregio Moulis. In dit jaar met lage opbrengsten en een hele goede concentratie laten de eerste proeverijen ons een krachtige en tegelijkertijd delicate rode wijn ontdekken, met een grote aromatische complexiteit die wordt gedomineerd door tonen van viooltjes, rode bessen en vuursteen. In de mond valt de finesse, rondheid, diepte en evenwicht op.&nbsp

Diepe granaatrode kleur met glanzende paarse schitteringen.

Super aromatisch met hints van viooltjes, zwarte bessen, vuursteen en sigarenkistjes.
Mond
De aanzet is soepel en fluweelzacht en de tannines zijn zijdezacht. Een wijn met een geweldige mineraliteit en een mooie delicatesse en elegantie. Super lange afdronk.
Bedrijfstemperatuur
Het wordt aanbevolen om op 16 ºC te serveren.

Tot ongeveer 2036, als het goed bewaard wordt.

Klimaat
De veel regen in de herfst en het super vochtige maar milde weer zorgden ervoor dat de wijnstokken vroeg uitliepen. De doorweekte grond en het wisselende weer maakten het nog lastiger, want er dreigde meeldauw. Daardoor moesten de teams van de wijnmakerij uit hun lockdown komen en hard werken om de wijngaard gezond te houden. Toen het midden juni eindelijk ophield met regenen, gingen de wijnstokken er beter uitzien, maar de hete, bijna verzengende zomer zorgde ervoor dat de oogst vroeg en van hoge kwaliteit was

34 hectoliter per hectare.

Handleiding, van 17 september tot 2 oktober 2020.
Wijnmaken
Fermentatie van de hele druiven in 51 roestvrijstalen, eikenhouten en betonnen vaten met een constante temperatuur en verschillende capaciteiten, speciaal ontworpen voor een perceelgewijze vinificatie. Extractie door middel van overpompen. Inwekingstijd van 20 tot 25 dagen.
Veroudering
12 maanden gerijpt in Franse eikenhouten vaten (waarvan 33% nieuw).

Meningen van critici

James Suckling:

This has a dusty character with black cherries and currants, as well as hints of cocoa, wet earth and raw mushrooms. Medium- to full-bodied with ripe, plush tannins that continue to build up throughout the deep, dark-fruited palate. It’s a muscular Poujeaux with a spicy and chocolatey finish. Try after 2026.

Wine Enthusiast:

Barrel Sample. Owned by a member of the Cuvelier family, this estate has produced a ripe, juicy wine bright with black currant and rich with generous tannins. The future is good for this carefully structured wine. 

Decanter:

Good depth of colour to the fruit, deep plum, with attractive fresh fruit aromatics. Confident tannic frame with acidity and black fruits - all the elements to ensure it will age. There isn't the richness of the fruit that you will find in 2016 but it is full of personality and easy to recommend. One of the more successful wines from Moulis in the vintage. Lots of tannins, and a point of bitterness on the close of play that needs to be carefully handled during ageing. A yield of 34hl/ha. Drinking Window 2025-2036.

Jeb Dunnuck:

Another surprisingly concentrated Moulis, the 2020 Château Poujeaux sports a dense ruby/purple color as well as terrific cassis and black cherry fruits, notes of tobacco and cedar, medium to full body, and a dense, layered mid-palate. It's terrific and one of the more age-worthy, serious wines I've tasted from this address, while still having plenty of up-front appeal. Tasted twice.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2020 Poujeaux is a strong follow-up to the excellent 2019. Wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, minty blackberries, pencil shavings and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and lively, with excellent concentration, refined tannins and a penetrating finish. A touch more tightly wound out of the gates than the 2019, it will reward a few years' patience with a broad drinking window.
