The single-vineyard 2022 Peña Caballera shows high ripeness and 15% alcohol, reflecting the conditions of the year quite faithfully. It's from 1.5 hectares of old vines in the higher part of Marañones at 850 meters in altitude and with a north-facing exposure where the grapes achieved high ripeness. The ripeness detected on the nose doesn't quite show on the palate, where the granite texture dominates. It perhaps doesn't have the finesse and filigree of the cooler years, with a slightly larger grain and a dry and persistent stony finish. It has more moderate freshness and acidity. It fermented with full clusters in a 2,100-liter concrete vat and matured in a 1,500-liter oak vat for 15 months. 2,000 bottles were filled in the spring of 2024. (Luis Gutiérrez)
From the warmer 2022 vintage, this Garnacha is intense and bold. There are finer aromas of violet and rose which lead to an impressive concentration of dried herbs and red berry fruit. Tannins offer substantial grip but aren’t drying, bringing structure and energy to the wine. A muscular interpretation of the vineyard which should develop over time. 2024 - 2032.
