Viña de San Martín 2013
Descrizione

The single-vineyard 2013 Viña de San Martín was cropped from vines planted back in 1968 on the Montejurra slopes with Garnacha vines at 550 meters altitude. The vines are organically farmed and worked with a horse. 2013 was a wet vintage that saw 971 liters (or millimeters, which are equivalent), after two very dry seasons in 2011 and 2012 that got the vines back to balance. The full clusters fermented in oak vats with indigenous yeasts, with a soft extraction. It wasn't easy to decide between this and the Viñas de Aranbelza, as both were quite similar and very good indeed. There is great purity and subtlety here, with more soil than fruit, not only in the nose but especially on the palate, where the pungent minerality gives it length and sustains the finish. I love the mouthfeel here, but the aromatics of the Aranbelza are very captivating. They are both at a similar quality level. Superb! This matured in 225-liter oak barrels for 18 months. 880 bottles were filled in July 2015.
