The Wine Advocate:
Named after the paraje in the outskirts of Villafranca del Bierzo, the 2018 Fuentes de San Lázaro is a gentle expression of 2018, with a dusty and somewhat rustic nose but a more vibrant palate, as the grapes ripened thoroughly but retained very high acidity (quite unusual in Mencía). These are reds for the long haul and for powerful and rustic food. Despite the color and power, it finished fermenting without skins and matured in barrel with the lees for 20 months. 555 bottles were filled in May 2020.
