Deze Syrah van één druivensoort is een van die wijnen die M. Chapoutier tot een van de belangrijkste wijnmakers ter wereld hebben gemaakt.

Een

druivensoort die in deze heuvels aan de voet van de Rhône het beste van zichzelf geeft en de hoogste niveaus van uitmuntendheid bereikt. In deze jaargang 2020 kunnen we genieten van een diepe neus met kruidige en rokerige tonen, en een mondgevoel waarin evenwicht de rode draad is

Het oogstjaar 2020 in de Rhône had een groeicyclus die vergelijkbaar was met die van 2003, 2005 en 2015, omdat de temperaturen hoger waren dan normaal, waardoor de wijnstokken zich snel ontwikkelden tot aan de bloei. Het was 18 jaar geleden dat er zo'n hoge waterstress was, maar dankzij goed observeren en de grond goed verzorgen, konden we de situatie onder controle krijgen en de suiker- en zuurgehaltes verbeteren. Deze oogst gaat zeker veel succes brengen in de toekomst, omdat de wijnen goed kunnen rijpen.

Wijnmaken
Volledige ontristing en wijnbereiding in cementen vaten. Er wordt een maceratie bij hoge temperatuur gedaan om zachte en evenwichtige tannines te krijgen.
Veroudering
Deze wijn is aan het rijpen en zal tussen de 14 en 18 maanden op vat blijven.

Another wine that flirts with perfection, the 2020 Ermitage Le Méal comes from the steep, south-facing slope right in the heart of Hermitage hill. All destemmed and brought up in the standard 20% new barrels and demi-muids, it has a more tight, straight, almost reserved profile than usual yet doesn't lack for density, mid-palate depth, structure, and concentration. Blackberries, redcurrants, spice, dried flowers, and loamy earth all define the aromatics, and it's full-bodied, has ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. It needs to be forgotten for at least 5-7 years but will evolve for three decades.

Welcome to the dark side of the Hermitage force, complete with billowing smoke and a deep well of blackberry fruit. Staggering concentration and a massive structure that’s nonetheless very precise. Enormous depth and energy at the finish which moves across the palate like a giant wave, which you the drinker are surfing. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

The super 2020 Ermitage le Méal boasts intense aromas of roasted meat, black olives, cassis and blueberries—a complex blend of fruity and savory that's more than the sum of its parts. Full-bodied and richly textured, it slides down deceptively easily for a young Hermitage of this pedigree, finishing with a flurry of soft tannins and tremendous length.

Decanter:

Explosive ripe blackberries melded with spicy oak. Very smooth and generous, shot through with a thick weave of sweet, ripe tannins. The alcohol is on the high side, but this has very impressive concentration and tannic weight - coupled with balanced acidity this promises to age with interest. I love the sweet, soft tannins, but this will take a long time to come round and show fully display its terroir.
