De wijnen van António Madeira zijn de puurste uitdrukking van de regio waar ze groeien, aan de voet van de Serra da Estrela, in Dão. Hij gebruikt meer dan twintig verschillende druivensoorten, waarvan vele in de vergetelheid zijn geraakt, om unieke wijnen te maken die iedereen zin geven om meer te ontdekken. Dat is waar A Liberdade voor staat: grenzeloze nieuwsgierigheid en het verkennen van nieuwe werelden. Intens fruitig en ongelooflijk mineraal. A flinty white with aromas of walnuts and lemon rind. The palate is energetic, with appealing tension and ripe stone fruit character. It is vibrant, with fresh acidity that drives to a prolonged saline finish. No sulfur added. It definitely has a charm of its own. Despite being a dry, difficult year with complications throughout the vintage, including fermentation, the wine has turned out very well. Drink now.
The white 2022 A Liberdade Branco was produced with grapes from three younger vineyards (20 to 30 years old) planted with six local varieties—Encruzado, Cerceal, Bical, Uva Cão, Barcelo and Terrantez—that are worked biodynamically. It fermented with indigenous yeasts and went through malolactic and matured in used 600-liter oak barrels followed by three months in stainless steel before it was bottled. It has 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.21 and 6.43 grams of acidity, quite fresh. 2022 was a very difficult year with difficult fermentations. The wine has a cloudy color and a slightly blurry nose, without the cleanliness and precision the wine normally has (I tasted a sample of the 2023, and that wine was very different), with something meaty, earthy, intriguing. The palate is still full of energy and full of sapidity, with a little more volatility that lifts it up. A wild white. 4,400 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2023.

Falto de fruta y corto de intensidad. Interesante sí pero la sensación es que ya en caída.
