Abeica Garnacha 2022

The varietal 2022 Garnacha has 14% alcohol, which is moderate for the variety, and in a very warm and dry year, they managed an incredible pH of 3.26 and 6.6 grams of acidity. It comes from two vineyards, one in Ábalos and the other one in San Vicente, planted 57 and 60 years ago, respectively. The destemmed but uncrushed grapes fermented in open tanks with 14 days of maceration, and the wine matured in 500-liter barrels and 390-liter oak eggs for 10 months. It has a serious, nuanced and insinuating nose that is elegant and balanced. They consider 2022 a balanced year for the grape; the fruit was very healthy, and the tannins are fine-grained, without the rusticity or grip I've seen in other places. It makes it very drinkable. This is a Garnacha of finesse. 3,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2024.

Such a scented, bright and racy garnacha that also has an exotic flowery touch. Brambly and minerally, with freshly crushed raspberries, strawberries and minerals. So elegant and delicate in essence, but the flavors are intense. Chalky tannins and juicy red berries throughout. It is the fruit brightness that is talking here. Irresistible now, but can hold.
