The Wine Advocate:

The 2022 Viñas Viejas, whose name means old vines, was selected only from the plots that give grapes with more flavor while they keep the acidity, especially in a torrid and super dry year (225 liters!) like 2022. It fermented in stainless steel and concrete vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in second-use 500-liter barrels for eight months and then spent another 11 to 13 months in concrete. It's darker, riper and toastier, with notes of pain grillé, roasted coffee and ripe berry fruit and a round, full-bodied palate with round tannins and a chalky finish. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol, with a pH of 3.8 and 4.3 grams of acidity, typical parameters in the zone for a warm year. 17,564 bottles produced.

Tim Atkin:

The key to making good wines in 2022, according to Toni Sarrión, was to avoid excessive tannins and extraction. This old-vine assemblage of Tinto Fino and 2% Albillo Mayor avoided the pitfalls of the vintage. Floral, juicy and harmonious, it has a stony, mineral core, classic blackberry and fennel flavours and negligible oak influence. 2025-32
