"The 2011 Alonso del Yerro Maria is produced with the grapes from two specific plots of vineyards fermented in oak vats and matured in a mixture of new and used French oak barrels for 14 months. It's ripe and heady, with a preponderance of black fruit with some initial reductive notes akin to cheese rind, hay and straw aromas, which give it a Mediterranean feeling (the year was very warm and ripe). The palate is full-bodied, a little heady, ripe with fine tannins, moderate acidity and a slightly warm finish. A big, ripe Reserva with good balance in a large style. 6,500 bottles were produced".
