Pela Roques 2020

The pure Syrah 2020 Pela Roques de Mustiguillo Finca Conejeros comes from vines planted in 1998 in their Finca Conejeros in the north of Requena at 850 meters in altitude on sandstone soils with quartz and feldspar. It fermented with 50% full clusters in 5,000-liter oak vats and had a soft extraction of five weeks. It matured in a 3,500-liter French oak vat for 10 months. It has a moderate 13.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.33 and 5.59 grams of acidity. It has a reductive/phosphorous twist, herbal and different, not very varietal, more in the iron and blood, more metallic. A very austere Syrah. I just checked, and I wrote very similar things about the first harvest in 2019... 3,627 bottles were filled in November 2021.
