Very aromatic, with raspberry, orange peel and floral aromas. Nice transparency. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a crisp, crunchy finish. Drinkable now, but better from 2026.
The nose is fresh and balanced, with aromas of bing cherries, wild strawberries, fresh coffee and number 2 pencil. The palate stays balanced, with more cherries, strawberries and coffee, as well as denser notes of soil and dark chocolate, plus a compelling interplay between chalky tannins and electric acid. Always a great deal.
This is a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. In this hot vintage, the Merlot was slightly reduced. The Ornellaia 2022 Le Volte dell'Ornellaia remains a plush and accessible Tuscan red. Harvest time saw lower yields on average, with smaller berries and greater fruit concentration. This wine matures in used oak passed down from the top-shelf wines. There is blackberry and dark cherry with sweet spice. - Monica Larner.
