Clima
Un'annata 2022 intensa in generale, con siccità e temperature alte, anche se gennaio è stato freddo. La primavera è arrivata piano piano, con la pioggia più bassa dal 1959. A giugno c'è stata la prima ondata di caldo, quindi la potatura è stata ridotta al minimo per far sì che l'ombra delle foglie proteggesse l'acidità naturale dell'uva. Grazie alla viticoltura biodinamica, i vigneti si sono adattati a questo riscaldamento globale.

Vendemmia manuale.
Vinificazione
Diraspato e vinificato in vasche di cemento. Si fa una macerazione ad alta temperatura per avere tannini delicati ed equilibrati.
Invecchiamento
Invecchiamento tra i 14 e i 18 mesi in botte.

Decanter:

High-toned, remarkably smooth, full-bodied and concentrated with marked acidity. Tannins are blocky and robust, but certainly ripe. Actually very elegant in fruit, with remarkable depth, power and freshness and a long finish, which is impressive considering the vintage conditions. Vines are around 50 years old, fermented in concrete, aged in recently used oak barrels for around 14 months.

The Wine Advocate:

One of the highest points in Chapoutier's lineup this year, the 2022 Ermitage Le Méal evokes aromas of violet, lilac, spices, pepper and dark berries. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and layered, it's more charming than Monier de la Sizeranne with a fleshier core of fruit and more harmonious, velvety tannins, concluding with a floral, ethereal finish. Delicately crafted and refined on the palate, this wine was fermented with 15% whole bunches and aged in a significant proportion of large barrels, 25% of which were new.

From a lieu-dit that may have struggled slightly in the vintage, the 2022 Ermitage Le Méal has a pretty, perfumed, medium to full-bodied style as well as perfumed aromatics of black raspberries, roasted herbs, graphite, and floral notes. It doesn't have the density of a top vintage here, but it’s clearly a gorgeous wine and has finely polished tannins, terrific balance, and a great finish. If it puts on weight over the coming year, the barrel score will seem low.
