Descripción

Monovarietal elaborado con las mejores uvas de su pago. Es el vino que mejor representa a la Tempranillo de Abadía Retuerta y resulta un fiel reflejo del estilo de la casa. La añada 2018, de ciclo especialmente largo, ofreció una uva de gran calidad. 

Es un vino de largo recorrido con un gran potencial de envejecimiento, originario del pasado dispuesto a triunfar en el futuro.

Los viñedos, ubicados en Sardón de Duero (Valladolid), se esparcen por laderas orientadas al norte hasta una altura que alcanza los 850 metros sobre el nivel del mar.
Edad
Viñedo plantado entre 1991 y 1994.
Suelo
De gravas profundas y arena en superficie.
Clima
Continental. La añada 2018 se caracterizó por el frío, la lluvia y la poca insolación hasta el mes de junio. Un clima que fue bien recibido tras la larga sequía del año anterior. El resto de temporada estival se caracterizó por no ser excesivamente cálida, salvo septiembre, que fue el más caluroso registrado por la bodega hasta la fecha, lo que favoreció la recuperación del ciclo vegetativo.
Cosecha
La vendimia se inició a finales de septiembre.
Envejecimiento
Crianza de 16 meses en barricas de roble francés.

The Wine Advocate:

Reminiscent of the 2016, the 2018 Pago Negralada has a mixture of red and black fruit, some spices and firm but fine-grained tannins that give it tension and a chalky sensation in the texture. It has 14.5% alcohol and good freshness and balance. It matured in one-third new oak. In general, the 2018s have less color than the corresponding 2019s, but it's more noticeable in this single-vineyard Tempranillo. It feels varietal and complex, with some development and notes of berries, spices and brick dust, serious, subtle and harmonious. The palate reveals the austerity of the vintage and the place, and it is medium to full-bodied, with fine tannins. It reminds me of the wines from the Duero from yesteryear. A vintage like the ones from the past? 21,269 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2020. - Luis Gutiérrez. 

Suckling:

Lovely blue and purple fruit with a hint of violets, bergamot and cocoa powder. This is complex and fluid on the palate with a medium to full body with lots of blue fruit in the very long, elegant finish. Delicious now, but can hold, too. - Zekun Shuai, Senior Editor.
