Decanter:

Fragrant floral scents and red summer berries on the nose. Expressive and open. Generous and friendly, this has a soft chew with lively acidity and salty edges to the tannins. It’s a little compact and tight, but there’s good definition and a great texture that suggests a good structure and potential for the future. Fruit has lovely purity with mouthwatering acidity but it fades quite quickly in favour of the crushed stone, salty, graphite elements. Clarity and precision. Not a blockbuster, missing a touch more density, but it’s elegant and finessed with great extraction! Ageing 30% new oak barrels.

Jeb Dunnuck:

The 2024 Château Canon-La-Gaffelière checks in as 43% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Cabernet Sauvignon, resting in 30% new oak. It has solid ripeness in its red and black fruits, leafy herbs, tobacco, and spicy nuances. It's medium-bodied, has a round, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and outstanding length.

James Suckling:

A polished CLG with berries and medium body, this is very fine and linear in the finish. Citrus and crushed-stone undertones. White pepper. From organically grown grapes.

Vinous:

The 2024 Canon La Gaffelière was picked from September 25 to October 5 and aged in 30% new oak. This has a light and airy bouquet with tertiary red fruit and touches of tobacco coming through slowly in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a tiny bit of greenness on the entry, although I feel it will assimilate with time. This just needs more density and grip on the finish, so it is a Canon-la-Gaffelière that I would broach in the medium term.

The Wine Advocate:

A blend of 43% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Franc and 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2024 Canon la Gaffelière is a bit dark and brooding, revealing aromas of iris, flowers, gentian and oak mingled with a delicate reduction. Moderately weighted, chewy and compact, it has a lively mid-palate, brittle tannins and a spicy, licorice-inflected finish.

Falstaff:

Dark ruby, purple reflections, broad rim brightening. Fine herbal savouriness, black forest berries, blackberry, delicate liquorice, candied orange zest. Fine texture, red forest berries, good freshness, ripe, silky tannins, a hint of sweetness on the finish, already well developed and accessible.
