Vlieglessen is een initiatief van Viña Zorzal waarbij ze elk jaar een topmedewerker hebben om hele speciale wijnen te maken. Dit keer hebben ze Dani Niepoort gevraagd. De basis voor deze monovarietal Garnacha is een 140 jaar oude wijngaard die al bestond voor de phylloxera-plaag

Klimaat
Het is een lastig jaar geweest, met een lente die warmer was dan normaal en vooral heel vochtig, en dat voor een hele tijd. Daardoor was er een groot risico op schimmel zoals meeldauw, die precies de juiste omstandigheden nodig heeft om te groeien.
Wijnmaken
Alcoholische gisting in een betonnen tank van 3000 liter met inheemse gisten.
Veroudering
Malolactische gisting en daarna 15 maanden gerijpt in een 500 liter eikenhouten vat van een jaar oud en in een 700 liter betonnen ei.

The Wine Advocate:

Their yearly collaboration wine from their Pontigos old vineyard delivered a 2021 Lecciones de Vuelo by Artuke produced with Arturo from Artuke in Rioja. It fermented with some 60% full clusters, but the stems were removed before the end of the fermentation. The wine matured in two 500-liter barrels for 15 months. The wine has moderate alcohol (13.5%), incredible pH (3.11) and high acidity (7.10 grams!) denoting a cooler year and possibly an early harvest. There is a common denominator with other vintages of this plot, the texture and the chalkiness of the tannins. It has an elegant nose, with purity and elegance. 1,300 bottles were filled in March 2023.

Every year Zorzal changes the collaborative partner for this wine, and in this case, the 2021 vintage was made with Artuke from Rioja. It comes from a parcel of 140-year-old prephylloxera Garnacha and fermented with indigenous yeasts that reflect the terroir. This is a sublimely stylish and pure expression of the variety that offers exuberant red cherry on the nose and ripe, velvety tannins. A poised and detailed wine. 2024-29
