De 2021-jaargang van de second vin van Château Angélus wordt door de wijnmakerij omschreven als evenwichtig en complex, van hoge kwaliteit en met een groot rijpingspotentieel, een getrouwe weerspiegeling van zijn geweldige terroir. Een oogst die niet de geschiedenisboeken zal halen vanwege de productie, omdat er keihard is geselecteerd om alleen de allerbeste druiven te plukken

Deze wijn is echt bijzonder door een zachte, regenachtige winter, met een paar uitbraken van meeldauw in de lente. De zomer kwam laat, maar vanaf augustus waren de omstandigheden tot aan de oogst super goed.
Wijnmaken
Gisting in omgekeerde conische stalen tanks bij 28 °C. Na gisting maceratie bij 28-30 °C gedurende 1-3 weken.
Veroudering
16 maanden gerijpt in nieuwe Franse eikenhouten vaten (60%) en vaten die al een keer gebruikt zijn (40%).

Meningen van critici

Decanter:

Beautifully expressive aromatics, really jump from the glass, alive and nuanced, floral, fruity - rosehip, cranberry, cardamom, cinnamon. Supple and lithe, this has movement to it which is so nice. Not super tense and straight, not dense and chewy, somewhere in-between with bright, mouth-watering acidity that lifts the expression. Hints of chalky minerality on the finish brings it back to focus with a moreish aspect. Tannins are great, barely noticeable but still giving the frame and support to the structure. Well delivered. Gorgeous purity, balance and harmonious, really lovely drinking here.

James Suckling:

This delicious wine is crunchy and crisp with plums, redcurrants, flowers and light cedar. Medium body, juicy tannins and a fresh finish. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc. Drink or hold.

The 2021 Le Carillon D'Angélus is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that spent 18 months in 60% new French oak. Black cherries, mulberries, spicy wood, and hints of graphite and spicy wood all define the aromatics, and this beauty hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, a lively, elegant mouthfeel, fine tannins, and outstanding length.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2021 Le Carillon d'Angélus offers up aromas of dark berries, grilled plums, espresso roast, sweet soil tones and cigar wrapper, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered palate that's deep and concentrated, with lively acids, chalky tannins and a long, youthfully oak-inflected finish. Like its big sibling, it's closed with a natural cork.
