"Fred Loimer's 2016 Ried Käferberg "Erste Lage" combines the aromatic fruit of Grüner Veltliner with the spicy smokiness of the Käferberg terroir. The wine opens clear, deep, fresh and complex, with bright fruit aromas and milled stone notes. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, tight, elegant and mineral wine with white fruit flavors and lingering grip and salinity. The finish is pure and powerful, driven by the immense minerality and perfectly ripe fruit. This is a great Grüner Veltliner, probably one of the finest that has been produced along the Danube River in 2016, the Wachau certainly included."
